SringaramDevadasis have occupied a position of privilege under the protection of the state and served as the main repositories of traditional arts, particularly dance and music since the 10 th Century. In 1920s Tamil Nadu, Madhura becomes the principal devadasi of her village temple. By the prevailing system, she also becomes mistress to the local princely landlord, the Mirasu. She accepts her symbolic but powerless position in society until she witnesses the unreasonable demands and vagrant abuses of power the Mirasu wields.In her directorial debut, Sharada Ramanathan refutes the idea of feminism as a western construct by illustrating how women of yore may have utilized the arts as a subversive route towards emancipation.

Soundtrack

The film's score and soundtrack were composed by renowned legendary violinist Padma Bhushan Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman. Sringaram is notably his first and till date only work for a feature film. Lyrics were penned by Swati VAR.
